Online Data Engineer

About the role

The Home Depot's Online Data Engineer teams translate business requirements and build the infrastructure needed to capture customer data. They acquire datasets aligned with business needs, develop algorithms to turn data into actionable information, build and maintain database pipeline architectures, and create data validation methods and analysis tools. The position reports to a manager or above, has no direct reports and requires no travel.

Key responsibilities

• Business collaboration: incorporate business knowledge into solutions, build trust with internal customers and cross-functional teams, and work with project teams to define project goals.
• Project management and team support: communicate insights and recommendations to technical and non-technical leaders, present them confidently, and prepare reports, updates and presentations on project progress.
• Solution development (55% of effort): design and develop algorithms and models to turn large datasets into business insights, serve as a lead on analytics projects, and work independently on solution development.
• Technical exploration and development: keep up with advances in advanced analytics and data sources, and contribute to improving predictive and prescriptive analytics with replicable solutions.

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States.
• Bachelor's or master's degree in a quantitative field (analytics, computer science, math, physics, statistics, etc.) or relevant work experience.
• Preferred: 2 years of experience minimum, 3 preferred; no leadership experience required.

Required skills

• Knowledge of ETL jobs/pipelines, orchestration, CI/CD automation and production support.
• High-level programming languages such as Python; analytical SQL.
• Batch and streaming pipelines, metadata definition, and stitching data from multiple sources.
• Preferred: JavaScript, React, PySpark, AirFlow, DataProc, Google BigQuery, and QA tools such as Retina, KPI Shield and Alert Goose.
