Non-Certified Pharmacy Technician

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a non-certified pharmacy technician in its pharmacy department in Milan. Technicians support pharmacists in preparing and distributing prescription medications while working toward national certification. The role involves prescription processing, insurance billing, inventory and customer service, and is paid hourly.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers, answer simple inquiries and accept written prescription orders and refill requests at the discretion of the supervising pharmacist
• Contact doctors' offices to take or request refill prescriptions and gather accurate patient information
• Help pharmacists prepare prescription products for dispensing, label containers and prepare prescriptions to be mailed
• Prepare and submit insurance claims and assist with third-party billing and troubleshooting
• File dispensed prescriptions, report medication errors, and order, receive and stock supplies
• Process cash transactions and administer vaccines where legally allowed and certified
• Maintain the pharmacy's cleanliness, protect patient privacy in line with HIPAA, and follow all pharmacy statutes and regulations
• Assist in other store areas as needed and take on special projects

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Working toward licensed technician certification through a certified national program
• Vaccination certification required if administering vaccines
• Previous experience as a pharmacy clerk preferred
• Age 18+

The anticipated hourly starting wage is $15.50 to $19.30 depending on experience. Employment is contingent on a pre-employment drug screen. The role is fast-paced and involves occasional exposure to hazardous drugs; training is provided.
