Naval Architect Intern (Summer 2027)

About the role

Saronic Technologies is seeking a motivated Naval Architect Intern to support the design and analysis of autonomous surface vessels. This summer internship offers hands‑on experience in naval architecture and emerging autonomous technologies within a defense‑focused environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in designing hull forms, structures, and systems for autonomous surface vessels (ASVs).
• Perform hydrodynamic and stability calculations, including resistance, propulsion, and maneuvering simulations.
• Collaborate with senior engineers on CAD modeling, structural design, and weight management to optimise vessel performance.
• Support the integration of autonomous navigation and control systems into vessel designs.
• Help conduct model tests and validation activities alongside engineers and programmers.
• Participate in design reviews, brainstorming sessions, and research on new naval architecture and autonomous technology developments.
• Prepare technical documentation, reports, and client presentation materials.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or a related field.
• Basic knowledge of ship design, stability, and hydrodynamics.
• Availability for a full‑time, on‑site internship in Austin, TX, from May through August 2027.

Required skills

• Familiarity with CAD software such as Rhino, AutoCAD, or SolidWorks.
• Experience with simulation tools like Orca3D, ANSYS, or equivalent.
