About the role
We are looking for a Naval Architect to join Saronic Technologies in Austin and help develop autonomous commercial vessel designs—from concept through production—for ships such as containerships, Ro‑Ro, tankers and bulk carriers. The role blends classic naval architecture work with cutting‑edge autonomous technology to drive innovation in maritime shipping.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and optimise hull forms, predict resistance, power and speed.
- Create functional designs, general arrangements and stability analyses meeting IMO and USCG requirements.
- Perform hydrodynamic, seakeeping and motion analyses.
- Design propulsion and power‑plant systems, both conventional and non‑conventional.
- Produce ship systems specifications, arrangements and P&ID drawings.
- Conduct global and local structural design, fatigue and service‑life assessments.
- Prepare regulatory submissions for US‑flag and international classifications (USCG, IMO, ABS, LR, DNV, etc.).
- Collaborate on CAD modelling, weight management and integration of autonomous navigation and control systems.
- Participate in design reviews, brainstorming sessions and technical documentation for internal and client use.
Required profile
- Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible asylee/refugee).
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering or a related field.
- Ability to work quickly on schedule‑driven trade studies.
- Clear communicator with both engineering and non‑engineering stakeholders.
- Strong fundamentals in core naval architecture principles.
Required skills
- Hull form and hydrostatics tools (e.g., Rhino3D, Orca3D).
- Hydrodynamics and seakeeping software (e.g., Proteus DS, ShipMo3D, StarCCM+, Simerics).
- Stability and load‑case analysis tools (e.g., GHS).
- Structural analysis FEA/FEM interfaces (e.g., FEMAP).
- Systems and structures drawing tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Siemens NX).
