Multi-Trade Maintenance Chief I

About the role

The Multi-Trade Chief I provides daily liaison between building occupants and Facilities Management at the University of Maryland. The role oversees a wide range of multi‑trade work orders across several high‑visibility research and laboratory buildings, covering more than 200,000 gross square feet.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary point of contact for occupants of assigned buildings.
• Process, schedule, and complete multi‑trade maintenance work orders.
• Maintain sophisticated mechanical, electrical, laboratory, and research equipment.
• Perform work from ladders, aerial platforms, scaffolding, and handle equipment up to 70 lb.
• Operate in hazardous, confined‑space, and adverse weather conditions while wearing required PPE.
• Prepare summaries, reports, and documentation for maintenance activities.

Required profile

• Four years of progressively responsible trade experience, including at least one year in a lead or supervisory role (or five years non‑supervisory).
• Valid Class C driver’s license in Maryland with fewer than six points.
• Comprehensive knowledge of trade methods, OSHA regulations, electronics, hydraulics, and mechanics.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to train skilled and unskilled staff.
