ML Research Engineer – Foundation Models (Senior/Staff/Principal)

About the role

Genesis Molecular AI is seeking a highly skilled ML Research Engineer to drive the creation and scaling of foundation models for molecular science. You will work at the intersection of machine learning, physics, and computational chemistry, turning cutting‑edge research into production‑grade systems that power real drug discovery programs.

Key responsibilities

• Scale model pre‑training pipelines and optimize performance of large molecular models across distributed GPU clusters.
• Advance reinforcement learning and post‑training systems, including productionizing structure‑prediction models such as Pearl.
• Bridge ML research with computational chemistry workflows, ensuring models translate effectively into drug discovery pipelines.
• Own the experimental lifecycle: design, execute, and analyze large‑scale experiments on compute infrastructure.
• Mentor engineers and researchers, contribute to publications, and represent Genesis at top AI/ML conferences.

Required profile

• 2+ years of industry experience building complex ML systems with a strong research engineering mindset.
• Proven ability to translate research prototypes into high‑performance production code quickly.
• Comfortable working in ambiguous, fast‑moving research environments while maintaining rigorous engineering discipline.
• Excellent cross‑functional collaboration skills with scientists in computational chemistry, structural biology, and medicinal chemistry.

• Python programming
• PyTorch, PyTorch Lightning, PyTorch Geometric
• Ray Distributed Training
• CUDA and GPU systems programming (including writing kernels)
• Performance engineering tools such as Triton, TensorRT, quantization
• Distributed training and large‑scale dataset handling
• Experience with reinforcement learning, diffusion models, LLM post‑training techniques (SFT, RLHF)
