Mission Operations Engineer (Autonomous Vessels)

About the role

As a Mission Operations Engineer at Saronic Technologies, you will be hands‑on with the deployment, validation, and continuous improvement of autonomous surface vessels, supporting both project‑based rollouts and ongoing software releases.

Key responsibilities

• Develop deep understanding of vehicle hardware and software architecture and how the system operates as an integrated whole.
• Lead planning and execution of structured field tests covering autonomous navigation, perception, communications, sensor integration and other vessel functionalities.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot autonomy, networking, and onboard hardware/software issues in real‑time during test events.
• Implement testing solutions, safety procedures, and system robustness measures to maximize operational efficiency.
• Own data‑logging and telemetry monitoring systems, ensuring data integrity for post‑test analysis.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis and issue triage after field anomalies, reporting to review boards to prevent recurrence.
• Maintain autonomous vessels and test environments, including support craft operations, using telemetry tools and onboard diagnostics.
• Ensure testing complies with applicable DoD performance, safety and compliance standards.
• Collaborate with autonomy, software, hardware and systems teams to translate product requirements into validated test objectives.
• Create post‑mission reports with detailed logs, data plots, issue summaries and engineering feedback.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• At least 1 year of hands‑on engineering experience in design teams or relevant internships.
• Ability to meet deadlines and deliver results both individually and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Understanding of vehicle hardware and software architecture.
• Experience with field testing of autonomous systems, including navigation, perception and sensor integration.
• Proficiency in real‑time troubleshooting of autonomy, networking and onboard systems.
• Data logging, telemetry monitoring and post‑test data analysis.
• Root‑cause analysis and issue triage methodologies.
• Familiarity with DoD performance, safety and compliance standards (preferred).
