Mission Operations Chief Engineer for Autonomous Surface Vessel

About the role

Saronic Technologies is seeking a licensed Chief Engineer to lead the operation and maintenance of its mid‑sized autonomous surface vessel, Marauder. You will be responsible for the engine room and all associated marine systems, ensuring safe and reliable vessel performance during missions.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on all vessel machinery and engineering systems.
• Oversee safe operation of main propulsion, auxiliary machinery, fuel oil, lube oil, cooling, and environmental equipment.
• Remain on call while the vessel is underway to address any engineering issues.
• Manage spare‑parts inventory and coordinate ordering of components and consumables.
• Assist in developing and executing the vessel’s Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
• Support mission execution by keeping all engineering systems fully operational and reliable.

Required profile

• Valid U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential endorsed as Chief Engineer (STCW 3,000 kW / 4,000 HP or greater).
• STCW Basic Training and Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch (OICEW) certification.
• Valid TWIC, USCG medical certificate, and passport.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Proven leadership and ownership of engineering operations.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to pass background check and USCG/DOT drug testing.
