Member of Technical Staff – Pre-Training

About the role

Join Reflection’s research lab to design and run scientific experiments that advance scaling laws, data efficiency, and model architecture for large language models. You will bridge cutting‑edge research with practical engineering to build open, accessible AI.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute experiments on scaling large language models and data efficiency.
• Implement state‑of‑the‑art deep learning methods and optimize training infrastructure for efficient scaling.
• Lead small research projects independently while collaborating on larger initiatives.
• Contribute across the stack, from low‑level system optimizations to high‑level model design.

Required profile

• Graduate degree (MS or PhD) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
• Strong software engineering experience building large‑scale systems and ETL workflows.
• Deep understanding of large‑scale ML, especially language models, distributed training, and scaling.
• Ability to navigate trade‑offs between research goals and engineering realities in a fast‑paced startup.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• Deep learning frameworks, preferably PyTorch.
