Medical Technologist 2 (Toxicology)

About the role

The Medical Technologist 2 (Toxicology) performs microbiological, molecular biological and immunological tests on body specimens, providing critical data for disease diagnosis and treatment. The role also supports quality assurance and instrument maintenance within the University of Miami Health System.

Key responsibilities

• Verify specimen identification, prepare samples, and handle them safely.
• Analyze test results, interpret abnormal findings, and refer data to pathologists.
• Calibrate equipment, manage supplies, and maintain inventory.
• Perform QC tests, record data, and troubleshoot instrument issues.
• Train and orient laboratory staff on techniques and operations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Current Florida Medical Technologist License.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
• Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
• Commitment to university core values and ability to work independently or collaboratively.

Required skills

• LC‑MS/MS, GC‑MS, GC‑MS/MS instrumentation.
• SPE and LLE sample preparation techniques.
• Mass spectrometry and chromatography principles.
• Software: ChemStation®, MassHunter®, Sunquest, UChart, Microsoft Office.
• Instrument troubleshooting and validation of new methods.
