Medical Director of Hospital Medicine (Physician) – Full‑Time Academic

About the role

The Ochsner LSU Health System – Monroe Medical Center & LSU Health Sciences Center seeks an experienced physician to lead Hospital Medicine as Medical Director. This full‑time academic position combines clinical hospitalist duties with faculty leadership, quality oversight, and teaching responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care as a hospitalist while supervising faculty hospitalists.
• Publish and manage the schedule for faculty hospitalists.
• Create, track, and incentivize quality metrics for the hospital medicine program.
• Teach and evaluate house staff and medical students, ensuring completion of learner evaluations.
• Conduct annual performance evaluations for all hospitalists.
• Serve as Director of Quality, overseeing hospital quality of care and leading improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Board certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine, Hospital Medicine (ABIM) or Family Medicine.
• Minimum five years’ experience as a hospitalist.
• Academic experience preferred; faculty rank of Assistant Professor or higher.
• Demonstrated clinical excellence, leadership, communication, and teaching abilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
