Medical Assistant - Oncology Office

About the role

Aoncology is hiring a Medical Assistant for its Southeast office to assist physicians with medical procedures and laboratory work. The role covers phlebotomy, blood work, quality control, instrument troubleshooting and maintenance, and is paid between $15.60 and $26.58.

Key responsibilities

• Perform quality control before patient testing, draw blood, run laboratory blood work and handle specimens according to lab procedures
• Prepare blood or bone marrow slides, send specimens to outside labs and maintain test and quality control logs and equipment records
• Follow the AON patient ID policy, obtain vital signs, height, weight, pain level and PHQ9 screening, and place patients in the exam room
• Receive lab reports and document them in the patient chart or EMR, and document all testing and treatment thoroughly
• Assist physicians with bone marrow, fine needle aspirate, paracentesis and pelvic exams, and schedule outside tests, referrals and hospital admissions
• Maintain supply inventory, order supplies, troubleshoot instrument malfunctions and perform EKG testing where applicable
• Keep the laboratory compliant with state and federal regulations, take the required annual CEUs, and train new employees
• Work at any AON location and work overtime when given sufficient notice

Required profile

• High school or GED; certification or license as required by the state of employment
• At least one year of experience as a medical assistant in a clinic or physician's office, including venipuncture
• Valid driver's license and a vehicle for travel to other clinic locations
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-site environment and to work remotely when required

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and EMR software
• Good command of English; second language is an asset
