Medical Assistant – Oncology (Full‑Time) – Jeff Hwy

About the role

Ochsner is seeking a full‑time Medical Assistant to support oncology patients at the Jeff Hwy location. The role involves providing individualized medical care under the supervision of a licensed health‑care provider, both in‑person and via electronic or telephone communication. You will work closely with physicians and patients to ensure smooth, compassionate visits.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients and providers throughout the visit, preparing exam rooms and ensuring all necessary information is available.
• Answer patient questions, complete documentation, and handle patient registration when needed.
• Communicate with patients by phone to schedule appointments and address concerns promptly.
• Maintain accurate clinical records in Ochsner’s data systems.
• Adhere to Department of Transportation drug‑testing policies when working in occupational health settings.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED; preferred completion of a formal medical assistant training program.
• Experience handling confidential information in a fast‑paced environment with minimal supervision.
• Medical Assistant Certification and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

Required skills

• Clinical knowledge relevant to oncology patient care.
• Proficiency with computers, software, and web‑based applications for documentation.
