Medical Assistant 1

About the role

The Department of Urology at the University of Miami is seeking a full‑time Medical Assistant 1 to work on‑site in Miami, FL. The MA will support medical providers by delivering hands‑on patient care, preparing exam rooms, and assisting with clinical procedures under direct physician supervision.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare treatment/exam rooms with supplies and instruments, and assist providers during physical examinations.
• Perform routine laboratory tests, vital signs, EKGs, and phlebotomy, documenting results in the patient’s medical record.
• Observe and report changes in patient signs or symptoms, and escort patients to various hospital locations.
• Maintain accurate patient records, order and stock supplies, and perform clerical duties as needed.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an approved Medical Assistant program.
• Ability to obtain a national or state MA certification within 12 months of hire if not already certified.
• Strong communication skills, professional ethics, and ability to maintain patient confidentiality.

Required skills

• Basic medical terminology.
• Phlebotomy, EKG, and vital signs measurement.
• Basic aseptic technique and instrument sterilization.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Florida HIV/AIDS Healthcare Professional certification.
