Mechanical Design Engineer (Onsite, Johnson City)

About the role

Moog’s Space and Defense Group is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its Power & Data team in Johnson City, TN. You will work onsite, contributing to innovative defense and space projects that support U.S. military priorities and NASA’s deep‑space missions.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and execute design engineering tasks, including stress and performance analysis.
• Provide technical support to engineers and contribute input on project processes and strategies.
• Design and draft new and existing hardware, applying clean‑sheet solutions for cost analysis.
• Analyze and modify heritage designs, producing calculations and documentation.
• Perform hands‑on integration work such as machining, 3D‑printed fixturing, and assembly assistance.
• Present mechanical engineering design work at program milestone reviews.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Electrical Engineering.
• Approximately 2 years of relevant engineering experience (preferred).
• Experience in design engineering, performance and stress analysis, GD&T, and component selection.
• Proficiency with CAD programs, preferably SolidWorks, and related analysis tools.
• Hands‑on experience assembling mechanical parts, including machining, drilling, fastening, measuring, and 3D printing.
