Mechanical Design Drafter – Hardware

About the role

Saronic Technologies is seeking a Mechanical Design Drafter to translate conceptual marine hardware designs into detailed, production‑ready drawings. You will work closely with mechanical engineers and naval architects on autonomous maritime platforms, creating 3D models and 2D documentation for hull structures, enclosures, propulsion components, and internal assemblies.

Key responsibilities

• Develop detailed 3D models and 2D mechanical drawings using SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software.
• Create fabrication‑ready drawings with GD&T, tolerances, and material specifications.
• Support design of watertight enclosures, brackets, payload mounts, and system integration layouts.
• Iterate designs based on field test feedback and functional requirements.
• Maintain CAD databases, drawing revisions, part libraries, and assembly documentation.
• Collaborate with external fabricators and machinists to ensure manufacturability.
• Participate in design reviews and prepare documentation packages for prototyping and production.
• Ensure compliance with mechanical standards, material compatibility, and DoD program requirements.

Required profile

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting Technology, or a related field.
• 2+ years of mechanical drafting experience in production, prototyping, or R&D environments.
• Experience designing mechanical systems for marine, aerospace, or defense applications.
• Familiarity with harsh‑environment design (saltwater exposure, shock/vibration).
• Exposure to MIL‑SPECs or DoD engineering standards.
• Hands‑on experience with fabrication, assembly, or field integration.

Required skills

• SolidWorks (or similar parametric CAD software)
• GD&T and mechanical tolerances
• Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes (machining, welding, sheet metal, composites)
• CAD database and part library management
• Understanding of MIL‑SPEC and DoD standards
