Master Laboratory Technician – Product Development

About the role

As a Product Developer in the Laboratory, you will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to develop innovative abrasives and conduct testing of prototypes. The position is based on‑site at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to develop high‑impact innovative abrasives.
• Engage with product developers, engineers, and technicians to complete product and prototype testing and provide data.
• Experiment with various test methods to determine optimum procedures.
• Maintain a safe and organized work environment, following all safety and compliance requirements.
• Obtain and produce lab samples needed for testing and communicate results through documentation.
• Prioritize, schedule, and conduct complex tests and experiments with minimal supervision.
• Record keeping, documentation of technical work, and contribution to intellectual property records.
• Identify and implement improvements to enhance lab safety and efficiency.
• Ensure availability of raw materials by maintaining and ordering supplies.
• Develop and follow standard operating procedures and process documentation.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED and at least five years of laboratory experience.
• Associate’s degree and seven years of laboratory experience (preferred).
• Prior industry experience with new technology or product development.
• Hands‑on, self‑starter approach with equipment troubleshooting experience.
• Familiarity with design of experiments, statistical analysis, and test method development.
