Marine Mammal System Assistant I

About the role

The Marine Mammal Systems Assistant I supports 24/7 operations, working closely with veterinary and biotech staff to provide superior care for marine mammals. This role involves feeding, medication delivery, health monitoring, and diving support for various projects.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor animal behavior and wellness, conduct body inspections, and record performance data.
• Perform feedings, administer supplements, and assist with basic husbandry tasks.
• Provide diving support, including enclosure inspection, maintenance, and watercraft operation.
• Support fish house operations by preparing individualized rations and may travel globally with animals on short notice.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology or related field, or equivalent experience with high school diploma.
• Minimum one year of relevant experience (animal training, marine biology, or small‑boat operation).
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a government security clearance.
• Flexibility to work nights, holidays, weekends, and physically demanding conditions.

Required skills

• Basic open‑water scuba diving certification.
• Operation of small watercraft (≤40 ft) and relevant maritime navigation devices.
• USCG vessel operator license or U.S. Navy Coxswain certification (if applicable).
• Ability to lift 50 lb and perform dive operations.
