Manufacturing Automation Engineer

About the role

Cerebras Systems builds a large-scale AI chip and is looking for a Manufacturing Automation Engineer in Sunnyvale. The engineer designs, implements, maintains and optimates automated assembly and test systems, working with cross-functional teams to improve production efficiency, product quality and reduce downtime.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and implement automation solutions for manufacturing processes.
• Program, troubleshoot and optimize PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, robotics and industrial control systems.
• Support installation, commissioning and validation of new production equipment.
• Analyze processes to improve productivity, quality, safety and cost, and perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.
• Maintain electrical schematics, control documentation and standard operating procedures.
• Lead or support capital automation projects from concept to implementation.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards, and train production and maintenance staff.
• Maintain spare parts inventories and support preventive and predictive maintenance.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics or Automation Engineering or a related field.
• 9+ years of experience in manufacturing automation, industrial controls or process engineering.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, P&IDs and mechanical drawings, and strong troubleshooting and project management skills.

Required skills

• PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron or similar)
• Industrial protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profinet or DeviceNet
• Robotics integration and automated material handling
• Electrical controls, sensors, actuators, servo systems and VFDs
• Preferred: Industry 4.0, IIoT, SQL, Python, C#, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and automation certifications

The salary range is $180,000 - $220,000 per year, depending on experience, skills and location. The role involves a manufacturing plant environment, travel to contract manufacturers and suppliers, and possible off-shift or weekend support.
