Managing Editor, Collections Management and Acquisitions

About the role

The Managing Editor for Collections Management and Acquisitions will lead the planning, execution and delivery of commissioned collections across Springer Nature’s journal portfolio. Working in a hybrid model from New York (or Jersey City/Philadelphia), you will partner with commissioning editors, guest editors, authors and operational teams to expand open‑access content at scale while maintaining high editorial standards.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee multiple live collections simultaneously, set priorities and coordinate activities across internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide end‑to‑end project management for commissioned articles, from concept through publication.
• Support commissioning editors, guest editors and authors throughout the collection lifecycle, ensuring timely submissions and high‑quality output.
• Collaborate with operational partners to monitor progress, resolve issues and deliver collections on schedule.
• Maintain rigorous quality control and author service standards to support the growth of the open‑access portfolio.

Required profile

• Proven experience in editorial or publishing project management, preferably within academic or scientific journals.
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities to manage several collections at once.
• Excellent communication skills for working with editors, authors and cross‑functional teams.
• Understanding of open‑access publishing models and commissioned content workflows.
