Manager, Staff Administration – Campus Dining

About the role

The University of Rochester seeks a dedicated Manager of Staff Administration for its Campus Dining operations. In this full‑time position you will lead the administrative functions that support a large, student‑focused dining environment, ensuring smooth daily operations and compliance with university policies.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily administration of policies and programs, including departmental recruiting, operational training, and safety initiatives.
• Provide general business operations support and coordinate administrative activities across the dining unit.
• Lead a support/production team, set priorities, and align work with other supervisors to meet service goals.
• Maintain coverage of offices, inquiry mailboxes, and phone lines, ensuring timely and thorough responses.
• Manage the payroll function, advise on payment methods, and guide bi‑weekly, semi‑monthly, and monthly payroll approval processes.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state labor laws, university policies, and data‑privacy requirements.
• Direct recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and new‑employee orientation for all staff and student workers.
• Coordinate technology and physical‑space arrangements for new hires and ongoing operations.

Required profile

• Proven experience in staff administration, HR management, or related supervisory roles.
• Strong leadership and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
• Knowledge of payroll processes, compliance standards, and higher‑education employment policies.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams and uphold confidentiality.
