Management Forester (NRP020) – State of Georgia

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking a Management Forester (NRP020) to provide technical assistance and forest management services to landowners across several counties. This full‑time position supports sustainable forestry, timber sales, and fire management while contributing to the health of Georgia's forest resources.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance to landowners on forest management, afforestation, and reforestation.
• Develop and write resource‑based forest management plans.
• Assist with timber sales on state lands and cost‑share programs.
• Diagnose insect and disease infestations and recommend control measures.
• Assess storm damage, develop prescribed‑burning plans, and support fire control efforts.
• Establish Streamside Management Zones and conduct related reporting.
• Present forestry programs to schools, local governments, and community groups.
• Operate heavy equipment and assist with control burns as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in forestry, forest resources, or a closely related field with core SAF‑accredited coursework, or an associate degree with Georgia Registered Forester certification.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and GIS.
• Excellent communication and customer‑service skills.
• Ability to pass the Moderate Work Capacity Test or Physical Agility Test annually.
