Lifeguard II – Part‑Time Aquatics Position

About the role

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Lifeguard II ensures the safety of all patrons at the Charlestown YMCA pool, enforces pool rules, and implements emergency protocols.

Key responsibilities

• Continuously scan the pool to prevent emergencies and respond immediately to incidents.
• Activate and follow the branch and pool Emergency Action Plan, perform rescues, and provide CPR, First Aid, and emergency oxygen as needed.
• Complete incident reports promptly and enforce pool rules.
• Maintain a clean, safe pool environment, assist with cleaning and testing when off‑duty, and secure the facility when no lifeguard is present.
• Participate in safety drills, attend required trainings, and communicate consistently with supervisors.

Required profile

• At least 18 years of age.
• Physically able to scan the pool, stand or sit for extended periods, and lift up to 50 lb.
• Available for varied shifts including early mornings, nights, and weekends.
• Must complete required trainings within the first four weeks (Child Abuse Prevention, Respect in the Workplace).

Required skills

• CPR certification.
• First Aid certification.
• Emergency oxygen (O₂) certification.
• Professional Lifeguard certification.
• YMCA Lifeguarding certification.
