Lifeguard II

About the role

The Lifeguard II position at the North Suburban YMCA works under the Aquatics Director to ensure pool safety, enforce rules, and respond to emergencies. This part‑time, hourly role requires active lifeguard certifications and a commitment to member safety.

Key responsibilities

• Continuously scan the pool to prevent emergencies and respond immediately to incidents.
• Activate and follow the branch Emergency Action Plan (EAP) when needed.
• Perform rescues, CPR, First Aid, and administer emergency oxygen.
• Complete incident reports promptly and enforce pool rules.
• Maintain a clean, safe pool environment and assist with cleaning and testing when off‑duty.
• Participate in safety drills, monthly and yearly trainings, and communicate consistently with supervisors.

Required profile

• At least 18 years of age with active Lifeguard Certification (YMCA, Red Cross, etc.).
• Physical ability to scan the pool, stand for long periods, and lift up to 50 lb.
• Completion of required trainings: Child Abuse Prevention, Workplace Respect, Professional Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, O₂.
