Lifeguard I

About the role

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Lifeguard I ensures the safety of all patrons at the East Boston YMCA pool, enforces pool rules, and implements emergency protocols.

Key responsibilities

• Continuously scan the pool to prevent emergencies and respond immediately to incidents.
• Perform rescues, provide CPR, First Aid, and emergency oxygen as needed.
• Complete incident reports promptly and enforce pool rules.
• Maintain a clean, safe pool environment and assist with cleaning and testing when off duty.
• Participate in safety drills, trainings, and maintain clear communication with supervisors.

Required profile

• At least 16 years of age with ability to physically scan the pool and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Available for varied shifts including early mornings, nights, and weekends.
• Ability to interact verbally and physically with members and staff.

Required skills

• CPR certification
• First Aid certification
• Emergency oxygen (O2) training
• Professional Lifeguard certification
• YMCA Lifeguarding training
