Licensed Practical Nurse (GS-6) – Veterans Health Administration

About the role

This full-time Licensed Practical Nurse position with the Veterans Health Administration provides direct patient care in a clinical setting. The role is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program and follows the GS-6 pay scale.

Key responsibilities

• Administer prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous) and perform treatments according to policy.
• Observe, assess, and document patient conditions, reporting changes to the supervising RN or physician.
• Assist with complex diagnostic tests and specialized procedures, preparing patients and handling equipment.
• Identify urgent or emergent situations, seek RN/MD assistance, and initiate emergency interventions as directed.
• Provide patient and family education and support, considering emotional, socio-economic, and age-related factors.

Required profile

• Graduate of an approved practical or vocational nursing program and active, unrestricted LPN/LVN licensure in the United States.
• U.S. citizenship or meet VA non-citizen appointment criteria.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d).
• At least one year of successful LPN/LVN practice or equivalent experience.

Required skills

• Medication administration (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous).
• Patient assessment and vital‑sign monitoring.
• Emergency response and basic life‑support procedures.
• Accurate clinical documentation.
• Operation of specialized diagnostic equipment.
