Legal Counsel – Prime Brokerage & Futures

About the role

The Legal Counsel will support Marex's North American Legal Department by providing practical legal services across prime brokerage, futures, and related transactional work. Reporting to the Senior Counsel, the role will grow into greater responsibility within the firm’s extensive commodity and financial markets operations.

Key responsibilities

• Negotiate and update contracts for multiple business lines, including prime brokerage, OTC swaps, securities lending, repo, futures, cleared swaps, cash equities, and ETF seeding/creation.
• Maintain key client relationships, ensuring documentation reflects the highest level of care and expertise.
• Communicate directly with CEOs and senior leaders of external clients to manage complex negotiations and articulate Marex’s legal position.
• Assess legal risks in existing contracts, produce term summaries, and advise internal teams on risk mitigation.
• Collaborate with Senior Counsel and Compliance Officers to align contracts with SEC, FINRA, NFA, CFTC, and other regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited institution and admission to a state bar.
• Demonstrated interest in financial services law, preferably with exposure to hedge funds, mutual funds, or managed accounts.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work in a regulated environment.

Required skills

• Contract negotiation and drafting for complex financial products.
• Risk assessment and summarisation of contractual terms.
• Knowledge of regulatory frameworks governing securities and derivatives (SEC, FINRA, NFA, CFTC).
