About the role
This position allows you to apply your expertise in protective relaying and control systems for high‑voltage (HV) and extra‑high‑voltage (EHV) substations while leading an engineering and design team on a variety of modification and upgrade projects.
Key responsibilities
- Lead engineering and design team for HV/EHV substation modifications and upgrades.
- Develop relaying philosophies, select relays, control and communications equipment, and design SCADA and telecommunication concepts.
- Prepare calculations, single‑line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, and engineering studies for client and peer review.
- Guide junior and senior engineers, review designs, and coordinate with project managers, clients, and suppliers.
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve engineering issues; perform independent reviews of calculations and drawings.
Required profile
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
- 10+ years of experience in protection, control, and telecommunications for high‑voltage substations.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Fully bilingual in Spanish and English (read, speak, write).
Required skills
- Protective relaying and control system design for HV/EHV substations.
- SCADA and telecommunication system design, including RTU and data concentrator concepts.
- Design codes and standards knowledge (NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, ANSI).
- Vendor relay equipment expertise (SEL, ABB, GE, Areva, Basler).
- Software: SKM, ETAP, ASPEN, CDEGS, AutoCAD or MicroStation, MS Office.
