Lab Technician - Engineering Tech

About the role

The Lab Technician works within the Global Brand & Product Development team, supporting Product Engineering, Product Development and Quality teams on new product development and production performance. The role involves constructing test rigs, running tests and reviewing results, and reporting to the Lab Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Execute product testing according to protocols and test standards, including functional safety, mechanical operation, environmental conditions, reliability, performance, failure modes and usability
• Set up test rigs and document test procedures based on internal and industry standards, following lab SOPs and completing tests on time
• Document test data accurately, evaluate test failures, determine root causes and recommend corrective actions
• Work with the Test Engineer and/or Test Supervisor to decide on additional testing
• Take part in project teams, help define applicable testing and suggest improvements to test rigs and test plans
• Develop basic code for PLC, PID or Raspberry Pi automation
• Contribute to 5S organization in the lab and keep work areas to 5S standards

Required profile

• Aged 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States
• High school diploma or GED
• Preferred: proven experience in a testing or laboratory environment, 2 years of experience, and a technical certification in a related field
• Typical overnight travel under 5% of the time; intermittent periods of continuous physical exertion

Required skills

• Preferred: working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
• Preferred: experience designing and building test rigs and fixtures
• Preferred: proficiency with hand and measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, screwdrivers, drills and bandsaws
• Preferred: familiarity with 5S principles and continuous improvement methodologies
