Senior New Product Development (NPD) Engineer

About the role

The Senior New Product Development (NPD) Engineer is a business partner to the merchandising team, managing and supporting private brand engineering projects. The engineer partners with internal teams on benchmarking, product requirement development and resolving product performance concerns, and uses bills of materials and internal tools to understand the full cost of manufacturing and shipping products. The role is an individual contributor reporting to an Engineering Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Engineering project management: benchmarking, product requirement development and test protocol development (about 50%)
• Financial and value-based calculations, summarized in presentation-quality format and shared with key stakeholders (about 30%)
• Resolution of product performance concerns (about 10%)
• General product engineering guidance and evaluations to support short-term business goals (about 10%)

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a field related to the job; preferred: Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, MBA, product costing experience, and extensive bill of materials knowledge
• Preferred: knowledge of merchandising and INCO shipping terms, and experience with OEM and vertically integrated manufacturers
• Preferred: 5 years of experience; no leadership experience required

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
• Use of costing software such as Boothroyd Dewhurst DFM/DFMAD
• Standard hand tools, lab equipment, power tools and pneumatic tools
• Manufacturing knowledge of plastics, metals, glass, wood, textiles and printed circuit boards
