Juvenile Correctional Officer – Eastman YDC, GA

About the role

The State of Georgia seeks a dedicated Juvenile Correctional Officer to work at the Eastman Youth Development Center (YDC). In this role you will help create a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for detained youth, supporting their rehabilitation and personal growth.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain custody, security, and care of youth in accordance with Department of Juvenile Justice policies.
• Conduct contraband searches, security counts, and supervise youth in housing units, classrooms, and other facility areas.
• Intervene with youth to maintain order, using active supervision and behavior management techniques.
• Oversee movement and transition of youth within and between facilities, including transport and temporary leave.
• Promote adaptive behavior through positive reinforcement, redirection, and verbal coaching.
• Screen visitors and staff to prevent unauthorized access and contraband.
• Utilize security equipment and technology to ensure the safety of youth and staff.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to obtain and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. certification within six months of hire.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Physical ability to meet agency‑established agility standards and pass a physical assessment.
