Internal Audit Summer Internship 2027

About the role

Mapfre is offering a 10‑week summer internship on its Internal Audit team in Webster, Massachusetts. Interns will support a strategic modernization initiative that improves the efficiency, reliability and scalability of financial and operational reporting. The role provides hands‑on experience in planning and executing operational audits across claims, underwriting, finance and other insurance functions.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in planning and execution of an operational audit, including basic testing, data validation and documentation.
• Prepare audit workpapers, maintain documentation, and track audit issues under supervision.
• Use data‑analysis techniques to identify trends, anomalies and potential risk areas.
• Research industry practices, regulatory requirements and emerging risks relevant to the audit.
• Collaborate with process owners in claims, underwriting, finance and other functions to evaluate improvement opportunities.
• Explore the use of AI, automation and analytics to enhance audit effectiveness.

Required profile

• Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s program (rising junior or senior) or a Master’s program in Accounting, Finance, Business/Data Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, AI or related fields.
• Fundamental understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting concepts.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Familiarity with data‑analysis tools such as SQL, Python or Power BI.
• Knowledge of relational database platforms (e.g., Snowflake).
• Experience with AI tools for productivity or analytical tasks.
