Intellectual Property Counsel

About the role

As an Intellectual Property Counsel at 3M, you will work with innovative teams worldwide to protect and manage the company’s IP portfolio. The role involves preparing and prosecuting patent applications, handling IP disputes, and providing strategic legal advice.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and prosecute patent applications globally.
• Handle opposition, IPR, and litigation support in IP disputes.
• Provide IP services for dispute management, transactions, compliance, and advice.
• Lead complex IP transactions and manage significant litigation matters.
• Act as primary contact for business clients, outside counsel, and international colleagues.

Required profile

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
• At least three years of IP experience in a law firm or in‑house setting.
• Member of a U.S. state bar in good standing and registered to practice before the USPTO.
• Strong academic credentials and business acumen.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Patent drafting and prosecution.

• Experience with USPTO practice.
