Instructional Support Specialist – Safety & Lab Management

About the role

The Instructional Support Specialist provides embedded safety expertise and laboratory management for the Jordan Agricultural Research Center and related facilities at Fresno State. Working under the Jordan College Dean, the specialist eases faculty administrative burdens, ensures OSHA compliance, and supports daily operations of research labs.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and update safety policies, equipment procedures, chemical storage guidelines, and researcher onboarding processes across multiple research facilities.
• Oversee daily use of the Jordan Agricultural Research Center, manage equipment inventories, lead tours for visitors, and advise on space allocation.
• Provide instructional support for undergraduate laboratory courses and graduate lab techniques when primary technicians are unavailable.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree with at least 4 years of health‑and‑safety experience.
• 5 years of laboratory management experience or 10 years of lab‑based research experience.
• Ability to create and adjust policies, exercise judgment in ambiguous situations, and build relationships across a multi‑organizational campus.

Required skills

• OSHA regulatory compliance and safety policy development.
• Laboratory equipment maintenance and repair, including training others.
• Use of equipment management systems and risk‑management practices.
