Institute Director – Shape the Future of Teacher Education

About the role

OsloMet is seeking an Institute Director to lead the Institute of Primary and Subject Teacher Education, Norway's largest teacher‑training institute with about 180 staff and 2,800 students. The role combines strategic leadership, academic oversight and external partnership development.

Key responsibilities

• Strengthen and develop the institute’s programmes, research activities and societal engagement.
• Lead the institute’s management team, ensuring achievement of academic, organisational and financial goals.
• Coordinate effective collaboration with the faculty, university administration and external partners.
• Contribute to faculty‑level strategy as a member of the dean’s leadership group.
• Foster a positive organisational culture and a health‑promoting work environment for staff and students.

Required profile

• First‑level competence in a relevant educational science field.
• Deep knowledge of teacher education, the Norwegian school system and related national and international research.
• Experience with higher education, including research and development work.
• Leadership experience in a knowledge organisation and strong financial management skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, and English.
