Indirect Tax (VAT/GST) Advisory Consultant

About the role

Stripe is looking for an experienced indirect tax professional to join its tax team as an Advisory Consultant. The role focuses on the Stripe Managed Payments (SMP) Merchant of Record product, helping the company navigate global VAT/GST complexities as it expands into new markets.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the global VAT/GST subject‑matter expert for the Merchant of Record product, managing shifting tax liability under marketplace and agency rules.
• Support Stripe’s entry into new international markets, ensuring compliance with local indirect tax regulations.
• Participate in policy discussions affecting indirect taxes worldwide.
• Collaborate with indirect tax compliance, accounting, product, and engineering teams to design and implement tax solutions.
• Assist with indirect tax audits and interactions with tax authorities across jurisdictions.
• Provide training and awareness on indirect tax legislation, systems, policies, and processes.

Required profile

• 4‑6 years of hands‑on experience with indirect tax (VAT/GST) regulations.
• Bachelor’s degree and a professional qualification in tax or law.
• Prior in‑house experience at a multinational corporation and experience at a legal or accountancy firm.
• Experience with indirect taxes related to digital services and marketplace models.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of global VAT/GST rules and compliance requirements.
• Experience managing indirect tax audits and liaising with tax authorities.
• Ability to translate tax policy into product and engineering requirements.
