Immunohistochemistry Lab Technician III

About the role

The Immunohistochemistry Lab Technician III supports the Anatomic Pathology laboratory at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, performing advanced specimen processing, slide creation, and data management during evening shifts.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, accession, and track specimens in the Laboratory Information System (LIS), including esoteric testing.
• Perform manual processing tasks such as centrifugation, aliquoting, frozen section slide creation, cell block preparation, and tissue embedding.
• Run and resolve LIS logs, conduct higher‑level accessioning, and manage pending issue logs.
• Serve as a subspecialty client liaison, providing advanced problem‑solving and issue resolution.
• Maintain equipment, place work orders, and ensure compliance with safety SOPs and regulations.
• Provide training, supervision, and mentorship to new hires and clinical learners.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree in a science field (or active enrollment in Cleveland Clinic MLS program); Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, physics, or medical laboratory science preferred.
• At least two years of laboratory processing experience (or equivalent experience with a degree).
• Ability to work in a stationary position for extended periods, lift up to 50 lb, and handle bio‑hazardous materials safely.
• Strong critical‑thinking skills and ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Laboratory Information System (LIS) and data analytics.
• Experience using tracking software/devices for specimen logistics.
• Manual processing techniques including centrifugation, aliquoting, frozen section processing, and slide creation.
• Knowledge of safety protocols, personal protective equipment, and bio‑hazard handling.
