Immunohistochemistry Lab Technician II

About the role

The Immunohistochemistry Lab Technician II supports the Diagnostics Institute by receiving, accessioning, and preparing laboratory specimens for analysis. The role involves maintaining quality standards, performing routine equipment maintenance, and assisting with training of new staff.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and accession specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• Retrieve, sort, track, and deliver specimens while verifying documentation.
• Accept or reject specimens according to standards and investigate any issues.
• Prepare specimens for analysis, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and routine equipment maintenance.
• Maintain patient, specimen, and tracking data using laboratory computer systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance, record keeping, and basic clerical functions.
• Provide training, supervision, and mentorship for new hires and clinical learners.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED required; Associate’s degree in Science preferred.
• At least one year of laboratory experience.
• Ability to work independently in a stressful environment and follow safety protocols.
• Strong organizational and time‑management skills.

Required skills

• Specimen handling and accessioning using LIS.
• Manual processing techniques such as centrifugation and aliquoting.
• Preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment.
• Use of personal protective equipment and biohazard safety procedures.
