About the role
The International Rescue Committee is seeking an Immigration Legal Assistant to support its legal services program, which assists thousands of immigrants across the United States. Working under the supervision of licensed attorneys or DOJ‑accredited representatives, you will help clients navigate USCIS processes and ensure accurate case management.
Key responsibilities
- Provide clients with information on immigration benefits, gather required documents, and assist with completing applications.
- Respond to client inquiries about case status and submit status requests to USCIS or the Department of State.
- Process USCIS and DOS correspondence, notify clients, and help prepare responses to notices or evidence requests.
- Maintain accurate physical and electronic case files, enter data promptly, and meet reporting deadlines.
- Represent IRC in communications with clients, community partners, and stakeholders via phone, email, and scheduled appointments.
- Support group processing events, outreach activities, and other legal service initiatives.
- Uphold strict client confidentiality and adhere to IRC’s Immigration Program Policies.
Required profile
- Works under the supervision of a licensed or accredited legal practitioner.
- Demonstrates strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and follow ethical guidelines.
