HR Leave Specialist – University HR

About the role

The HR Leave Specialist supports Texas A&M University‑Corpus Christi by administering employee leaves of absence, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and university policies. This position serves as a primary resource for faculty, staff, and managers navigating leave programs such as FMLA, parental leave, disability, and other university‑sponsored leaves.

Key responsibilities

• Intake, track, and coordinate leave requests including FMLA, short‑ and long‑term disability, military, and ADA‑related leaves.
• Review eligibility, verify documentation, and communicate rights, responsibilities, and timelines to employees.
• Maintain accurate leave records in Workday and other HR systems, ensuring confidentiality and proper documentation.
• Generate leave reports, support compliance audits, and assist with data collection.
• Collaborate with HR Business Partners, Payroll, Benefits, and department managers to facilitate smooth leave transitions and return‑to‑work processes.
• Stay current on federal, state, and university leave laws and regulations.

Required profile

• Experience in HR administration, preferably with a focus on leave management.
• Strong knowledge of FMLA, ADA, and other leave statutes.
• Excellent communication and customer‑service skills.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Required skills

• Workday (HRIS) proficiency.
