Histology Technician / Histotechnologist

About the role

Cleveland Clinic’s Main Campus is seeking a full‑time evening Histology Technician or Histotechnologist to prepare high‑quality tissue samples that support accurate diagnoses and treatment decisions. The position works the 4:00 pm‑12:30 am shift in the Immunohistochemistry laboratory.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, process, embed, and section tissue specimens using microtomes, cryostats, and related equipment.
• Perform routine and specialized staining procedures, including histochemical, enzyme, immunohistochemical, and in‑situ hybridization stains.
• Mount, label, and distribute slides for pathologist review and maintain accurate specimen documentation.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, perform daily maintenance, coordinate repairs, and ensure compliance with OSHA and CLIA safety standards.

Required profile

• ASCP certification eligible in Histology (Technician) or Histotechnologist certification (HT/HTL) for the Histotechnologist track.
• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related field for Histotechnologist role, or meet CLIA qualifications.
• One year of relevant laboratory experience preferred.
• Ability to work evenings and handle hazardous materials safely.

Required skills

• Operation of microtomes and cryostats.

• Slide preparation, labeling, and distribution.
• Reagent, buffer, and solution preparation.
• Laboratory equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of OSHA chemical hygiene and bloodborne pathogen regulations.
