Histology Technician / Histotechnologist – Electron Microscopy

About the role

The Cleveland Clinic Main Campus seeks skilled professionals to join its Pathology laboratory team on evenings (11:00 am‑7:30 pm). The position can be filled as a Histology Technician or a Histotechnologist, depending on education, certification, and experience, and involves preparing high‑quality tissue specimens for diagnostic use.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, process, embed, and section tissue specimens using microtomes, cryostats, and related equipment.
• Perform routine and specialized staining, including histochemical, enzyme, immunohistochemical, and in‑situ hybridization procedures.
• Mount, label, and distribute slides for pathologist review while maintaining accurate specimen documentation.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, perform daily maintenance, and coordinate repairs or reagent replacement.

Required profile

• ASCP certification eligible in Histology (or Histotechnologist certification) for the Technician role.
• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related field (or CLIA‑qualified) for the Histotechnologist role.
• Knowledge of OSHA chemical‑hygiene and bloodborne‑pathogen standards.
• One year of relevant laboratory experience preferred.

Required skills

• Operation of microtomes, cryostats, and automated staining instruments.
• Preparation of reagents, buffers, and staining solutions.
• Immunohistochemistry and molecular techniques such as in‑situ hybridization.
• Accurate data entry and record‑keeping for specimen tracking.
