Highway Equipment Operator – Light & Heavy

About the role

The Town of Hanover is hiring skilled equipment operators to maintain streets, sidewalks, parking lots and drainage systems. You will work year‑round in a hands‑on, team‑oriented environment, operating both light and heavy municipal equipment to keep the community safe and accessible.

Key responsibilities

• Operate a variety of equipment including dump trucks, motor graders, excavators, front‑end loaders, backhoes, bulldozers, street sweepers, brush chippers and boom mowers.
• Run snow plows and sanding equipment during winter weather.
• Install drainage pipes, catch basins, and perform pothole and utility‑cut repairs.
• Build forms, pour and finish concrete, and lay brick or block.
• Remove tree hazards and install/maintain road signs and seasonal decorations.
• Assist with traffic control at work sites and respond to customer service requests.
• Conduct pre‑ and post‑trip inspections and routine maintenance (oil changes, filter replacements, blade and chain upkeep).
• Use hand and power tools, including chainsaws, to complete related duties.

Required profile

• Knowledge of street and drainage construction and maintenance techniques.
• Familiarity with town safety policies, OSHA standards and traffic regulations.
• Valid driver’s license and any required equipment operation certifications.
