Health Policy Legal Extern (Hybrid Internship)

About the role

The Health Policy Legal Extern will support the Assistant Commissioner for Policy and the Director of Government Affairs at the Georgia Department of Public Health during the legislative session. This hybrid 10‑week internship provides hands‑on experience with legislative tracking, bill analysis, and policy development in a public‑health setting.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and monitor legislation that may impact the Department of Public Health.
• Conduct bill analysis, summarize findings, and distribute reports to internal staff.
• Track bill progress, amendments, and substitutes throughout the session.
• Attend committee meetings, floor sessions, and budget hearings, providing concise meeting summaries.
• Assist with constituent services and develop relationships with external partners.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled as a law student or a Master of Public Health student.
• Dynamic, energetic, and willing to take on varied tasks assigned by supervisors.
• Strong interest in public‑health policy and legislative processes.
