Health and Social Services Assistant Director

About the role

The Health and Social Services Assistant Director will support the mission of helping citizens and the community thrive by providing operational leadership, managing resources, and ensuring culturally centered services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide operational guidance and oversee day‑to‑day activities of the Health & Social Services Department.
• Manage expenditures, grants, and budgeting to support program delivery.
• Foster positive working relationships and collaborate with staff, community partners, and tribal entities.
• Support H&SS programs in delivering ethical, culturally appropriate services.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of experience supporting leadership on special projects.
• Strong interpersonal, analytical, and critical‑thinking abilities.
• Excellent time‑management, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, sometimes stressful environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
• Typing speed of 40‑60 words per minute with accuracy.
• Valid Alaska driver’s license and eligibility for vehicle insurance.
