About the role
The Graduate Student Specialist I provides detailed guidance to graduate students, faculty, and staff on the graduate educational experience. Working under direction, the specialist reviews theses and dissertations, manages manuscript submissions, and serves as a resource for formatting and compliance questions.
Key responsibilities
- Review theses, dissertations, and records of study for formatting standards and compliance before final approval.
- Provide timely feedback and communication to students regarding manuscript revisions and submission deadlines.
- Track and analyze manuscript submissions in Vireo, TRS, and Compass, ensuring accurate student records.
- Maintain and update Word and LaTeX thesis/dissertation templates, including the Overleaf platform.
- Guide graduate students, faculty, and staff through the submission process and coordinate manuscript reviews each semester.
- Respond to phone and email inquiries, conduct workshops, and develop training materials related to graduate services.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent education/experience.
- Experience working with graduate students in an advising or support capacity.
- Familiarity with Texas A&M systems such as Compass, Howdy, and DPSS is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and written communication skills.

- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- LaTeX document preparation (Overleaf platform)
