General Maintenance Technician III - Electrical

About the role

Amentum is seeking a General Maintenance Technician for its industrial maintenance team in Ames, IA. The technician provides an intermediate level of expertise in responding to work orders, troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on building and facility equipment, fixtures and systems in an industrial, large commercial or logistics environment. Typical hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., which may vary with business demand.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on conveyor and R.O. systems, overhead cranes, ventilation equipment, rooftop HVAC, forklift equipment, pumps and motors, and water and sewer systems
• Repair industrial and commercial lighting, dock locks and levelers, and office furniture, windows and doors
• Diagnose and repair heating and ventilation equipment, including VAV and AHU systems, and inspect and repair roofing
• Document and enter PM and repair data into the CMMS, and respond to customers on work orders
• Safely operate forklifts, hoists and cranes, and follow lockout/tagout and PPE requirements
• Assist specialized technicians and recommend improvements to maintenance methods

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Three years of experience maintaining buildings, facilities or equipment in an industrial environment, or equivalent education and experience
• Ability to work in an aerial or scissor lift at heights up to 30 feet and to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
• Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a security access badge; no sponsorship for U.S. work authorization
• Willingness to work overtime, holidays and weekends

Required skills

• Ability to work safely around 480V 3-phase electrical circuits and to troubleshoot pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical systems
• Preferred: associate degree in industrial electrical, industrial technology or HVAC; experience with 480V 3-phase, PLCs and ladder logic, and with HVAC, conveyors and R.O. systems
