Full‑Time Phlebotomist in Hospital Setting

About the role

The UHealth Laboratories Department at the University of Miami is seeking a full‑time Phlebotomist to work in the UTower Hospital. The role involves drawing blood, verifying patient records, and preparing specimens for laboratory analysis while providing compassionate care.

Key responsibilities

• Perform patient phlebotomy using the techniques outlined in the procedure manual, prioritising hematology and oncology cases.
• Accession, label and transport specimens, ensuring accurate patient identification and timely delivery to the lab.
• Maintain inventory levels, rotate stock, and keep accurate logs and files.
• Answer questions about test requisitions, specimen requirements and patient results, and resolve related issues.
• Document failed draws, monitor patients post‑draw and provide assistance as needed.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent with at least one year of relevant phlebotomy experience.
• Current Phlebotomist certification and HIVBLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• Ability to work collaboratively, follow strict infection‑control protocols and handle urgent STAT draws across multiple hospital units.

Required skills

• Phlebotomy technique (venipuncture and capillary puncture).
• Specimen handling, labeling and transport.
• HIVBLS and BLS certification.
• Use of Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) for data entry and tracking.
