About the role
The Georgia Department of Agriculture is seeking a Fuel Laboratory Analyst to join its State Fuel Oil Laboratory in Tifton. This position supports the testing of motor, aviation, renewable fuels, kerosene, and antifreeze to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
Key responsibilities
- Receive, log, visually inspect, and prepare fuel and related samples for analysis.
- Conduct laboratory analyses of gasoline, diesel, jet fuels, motor oils, diesel exhaust fluids, and other petroleum products using ASTM‑approved methods.
- Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System and generate routine and on‑demand reports.
- Monitor and analyze product databases, ensuring data integrity and compliance.
- Inspect laboratory facilities and equipment for specification adherence.
- Maintain inventory of chemicals and consumables.
- Provide technical assistance to management and fuel inspectors.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in a physical or natural science from an accredited institution.
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods and lift up to 25 lb sample containers.
- Willingness to work in environments with petroleum vapors and varying temperatures.
Required skills
- Proficiency with ASTM testing methodologies for petroleum products.
- Experience using a Laboratory Information System (LIS) for data entry and reporting.
- Skill in sample preparation, handling, and analytical testing of fuels and related chemicals.
- Capability to manage and analyze large datasets related to fuel quality.
