French Language Teacher – Part‑time Consultant (UN)

About the role

The Language and Communications Training Unit of the United Nations is hiring a part‑time French Language Teacher to develop and deliver “French for Diplomacy” courses and workshops at UN Levels II‑IV. The contractor will work remotely from New York, preparing course materials, teaching via in‑person, online or hybrid modalities, and assessing learner performance.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and teach French language and communication skills courses at all levels using in‑person, online or hybrid delivery.
• Assess students’ performance, provide feedback, and maintain attendance and grading records in the Learning Management System.
• Utilise Moodle and other e‑learning tools for course preparation, delivery, and administration.
• Develop new French language courses, learning materials and innovative instructional technology.
• Design and grade French language proficiency examinations following UN guidelines.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in language teaching, applied linguistics, education or a related field; or a first‑level degree with at least two years relevant experience.
• Minimum five years of experience teaching French to adult learners in multicultural settings, with at least three recent years in curriculum development, exam design or teacher training.
• Expert level competence in French (oral and written) and advanced English, as defined by the UN Language Framework.
• Experience with e‑learning tools, LMS platforms and online collaboration tools is desirable.
